Mrs Brown’s Boys has been a staple on our TV screens for years, but many fans may not realise that a lot of the cast are actually related – here’s a look at the family tree
Devoted followers of Mrs Brown’s Boys might be surprised to learn that many of the characters are actually related in real life.
Brendan O’Carroll’s endearing Dublin granny has been tickling our funny bones since the 90s, but it was in 2011 when Agnes Brown became a household name with her own BBC show.

While Brendan’s matriarch is undoubtedly the star of the show, she shares the screen with numerous members of her extensive family. Instead of hiring high-profile actors, Brendan enlisted his family and close mates to form the cast.
The popular show always takes centre stage on telly during the festive season with an annual Christmas and New Year’s Special and is currently back with a new mini series. Both specials draw large audiences, but many viewers may not realise that the cast are largely related.
In reality, Agnes’ only daughter Cathy is portrayed by Brendan’s wife, Jennifer Gibney.
Everyone’s favourite mischief-maker Buster Brady is brought to life by Danny O’Carroll, who happens to be Brendan’s actual son.
Maria, Mrs Brown’s daughter in the show, is played by Fiona, who is indeed Brendan’s real-life daughter as well.

Martin Delany, who portrays Trevor, was once married to Fiona, making him Brendan’s son-in-law in real life. The couple were together for over 15 years before announcing their separation in 2021.
Amanda Woods, who plays Betty Brown, is another family connection. She was married to Danny O’Carroll. making her Brendan O’Carroll’s daughter-in-law. Danny confirmed news of their split earlier this year and has moved on with partner Tina.
Jamie O’Carroll, who plays Bono Brown, is the on-screen and off-screen grandson of Mrs Brown. Jamie is the child of Amanda and Danny, both mentioned above.
Jennifer Gibney, who plays Cathy Browne, is actually Brendan O’Carroll’s wife in real life. The couple tied the knot in 2005 and have been together ever since.
Eilish O’Carroll, who plays the lovable Winnie McGoogan, is Brendan O’Carroll’s sister in real life. On the show, she is best friends with Agnes.
