Danny O’Carroll lands new radio show in Donegal as David James confirms future on station

The Mrs Brown’s Boys star is heading to the airwaves in the New Year as he joins the team at Highland Radio in Donegal, where country star David James also works

Danny O’Carroll is making the move from the telly to the airwaves with a new radio show.

The Mrs. Brown’s Boys actor and Dancing With The Stars finalist can add radio presenter to his CV when he joins Highland Radio in the New Year.

Danny has revealed he is the new host of drivetime on the station, based where he lives in Donegal.

He will start his new role on January 5th.

“Donegal is my home so I’ll enjoy talking to people up there,” Danny told the Irish Sun.

“The only thing I’m nervous about is all the buttons.”

Country music star David James currently hosts afternoons on Highland Radio with his programme The Jive Time Show.

But fans of the Donegal singer need not worry as he isn’t leaving the station.

David told RSVP Live: “I can confirm that I will be staying on with Highland Radio in 2026.”

Earlier this year, David told RSVP Country about balancing his work on radio with gigging around the country.

“I’m still on air five days a week, every Monday to Friday from 2.30 to 5pm. It’s something I really enjoy doing and I feel so lucky to have that job,” he said.

“It’s a stable job and it ties in really well with my music career. It can be hard to balance things when I’m out on the road.

“The station has been so good when it comes to supporting my music, they never ever held me back and they’ve only ever tried to help me.”

Finding the balance can be difficult as David says he is still in “the growth stage” of his career.

He said: “There are days where I leave Highland at 5pm and drive to Carlow for a gig. Or I could play Killarney on a Sunday night and be back on radio again the next day.

“It’s what I do and it’s become a way of life for me. If I don’t get home until 6am, I can sleep from then until 1pm the next day before I have to get up and go on air.

“It’s tough and challenging alright, but it’s something I’ve been able to manage up until this point.”
