Rory Cowan responds to judges critiques as Dancing with the Stars debut scores 11 points

The Mrs Brown’s Boys actor and partner Jillian closed Sunday night’s opening show with a cheeky Charleston but the judges told him they want to see more energy going forward

Rory Cowan was quick to respond to the judges comments following his Dancing with the Stars debut on Sunday night.

The former Mrs Brown’s Boys star is paired up with newcomer Jillian Bromwich and closed the show with a fun-filled Charleston to When I’m 64 by The Beatles.

However, Rory failed to impress judges Arthur Gourounlian, Brian Redmond and Loraine Barry, who wanted to see the actor dance with more energy and passion.

When receiving critiques from the judging panel, Rory was quick to reply to their comments.

Arthur told him: “Rory, Rory, Rory, where do I begin? They say they save the best for last, I’m not sure, but it was so much fun though.

“It’s not easy to be the last one and to close the show but you came out to prove that you are here to have so much fun and enjoy every single minute of it, and I’m here for it.

“But I wish you went harder, because you have the musicality.”

Rory quickly jumped in: “Arthur, I’m nearly an old age pensioner, I’m 64. I’m 65 this year.”

To which Arthur replied: “Don’t give me those excuses. I’m excited to see you bring more.”

Brian was next to deliver his critique and began by welcoming new professional dancer Jillian to the show.

“Jillian, first of all welcome to the show,” he said.

“You brought so much fun and energy and passion to the party today, it’s just a shame that Rory wasn’t at the same party as you.”

Rory interjected: “Brian, all I have to say is what I’ve taken from rehearsals I’ve done so far – you can dance good, you can dance bad… it doesn’t matter as long as you dance.”

Loraine also echoed the sentiments of her fellow judges, telling the actor: “Rory, I just don’t buy your story of, ‘Oh, I’m 64,’ because I’m not far behind you.

“And also, when you dance you have some moves. You have rhythm, you have agility and I guarantee that if all the men at home had Jillian in front of them, they too would have a spring in their step.

“You know what they say, the best medicine is to dance, so let us get more dancing, Rory.”

Rory scored a total of 11 points from the judges which placed him at the bottom of the leader board.

Despite this, the Fair City star said he loved every minute of his performance and had a brilliant time dancing with Jillian.

Meawhile, RuPaul’s Drag Race star Blu Hydrangea placed first on the leader board after securing 24 points for her Cha Cha.

David Whelan, Katja Mia and Laura Fox also impressed on the night.

Dancing with the Stars continues next Sunday at 6.30pm on RTE One and RTE Player.
