Mrs Brown’s Boys creator Brendan O’Carroll says he and his co-stars want to give the nation a boost because ‘laughter is just what the doctor ordered’
Oh Mammy! Mrs Brown’s Boys is getting another series.
A new run of the hit comedy has been commissioned by the BBC after top-secret talks. Production on the episodes is due to kick off within months.
Creator Brendan O’Carroll, who plays Agnes on the show, said: “We are going to film another series in April and May. It’s lovely to be asked to do another one.”
Cast members including Jennifer Gibney, who plays Cathy, are expected to return for the new episodes. It will be the fifth run of the comedy since it first aired in 2011.
Brendan makes the show because he wants to give the nation a boost.
He said: “We do the show for the audience. Laughter is just what the doctor ordered. It does everybody the world of good.
“We’re not trying to be smart or clever. We are not trying to give people a message. We are just trying to make people laugh, that’s all.”
Brendan is hoping to keep making the show for years to come. He added: “I’m going to milk this widow to death. When the BBC stops asking, I’ll stop making it.”
And while the BBC haven’t asked Brendan to stop yet, viewers have. Whenever the show airs over the festive period, BBC viewers flock online to share their frustrations.
Last year, one X user said: “It’s a sad day for the human race today, a new season of Mrs Brown’s Boys starts tonight.” Another added: “The whole nation absolutely does NOT adore Mrs Brown’s Boys. I consider it drivel and totally unfunny.”
