Danny O’Carroll has ‘no interest’ in Glitterball trophy as he reveals generous gesture from dad Brendan after DWTS ends

Danny and his pro dance partner Salome Chachua will compete in the final of Dancing with the Stars this Sunday

Dancing with the Stars finalist Danny O’Carroll has admitted he has no interest in winning the show – but would like to lift the Glitterball trophy for his pro dance partner, Salome Chachua.

And the actor, who stars as Buster Brady in Mrs Brown’s Boys, said he almost walked away from the competition several times – but his two sons and his new partner Tina kept him in the competition.

He told us: “Absolutely. We can’t go any further. We have done the series. We are all winners, so it doesn’t matter what happens.

“Do I have a goal to lift the Glitterball? No. I have no interest in lifting the Glitterball, but I would love to win it for Salome.

“She has put in so much work, the work that she does blows me away that she does this every year she’s been so close.

“This is her third time being in the final.”

He said if he won the show, it would be for his two sons and his new partner Tina, and Salome.

“They walked through this whole thing with me from day one, and as much as I struggled being away from them, they also struggled.

“I just miss everything at home. I’m the only one that’s here that doesn’t go home to their families.”

He said that while he feels amazing that he makes it through every week on the show, his euphoria quickly disperses when he realises he doesn’t get to go home at night to his family.

And he admitted he almost walked from the show a few times because of his homesickness.

“They were saying to me that if I leave it will all be for nothing. I was thinking well, ‘how can I break my leg?’ But I feel like I’m doing this for everybody else.”

Danny credited his partner Tina for keeping him positive on the show and while he gushes about his new girlfriend, he poured cold water on plans to re-marry.

Danny was married to Mrs Brown’s Boys cast member Amanda Woods, who plays Betty Brown in the show. The couple share two sons, Jamie and Blake, together.

Last year, the pair confirmed their separation after 17 years of marriage.

“Tina’s been amazing for me. The family love her. She is the closest thing to being perfect,” Danny said but when asked if he would re-marry, he replied, laughing: “Oh no, I wouldn’t go that far.”

Danny and Salome will dance the Charleston to Don’t Blame it On Me by Michael Bublé in Sunday night’s grand final.

The performance, which was danced all the way back in week two, scored the couple four nines and remains Danny’s highest-scoring dance to date.

The Dubliner revealed his plans after the show finishes – saying his dad Brendan will fly him and 17 others out to Florida next Wednesday for 10 days of golfing.

“My dad organises a holiday every year for around 18 guys and he flies us all over to play golf for 10 days. It’s called the Crystal Mickey and everyone wants to go.

“It’s the most amazing trip and it is exactly what I need after this show.

“You feel like you can take on the world after it. Dad has that effect on people. That’s why it was so good to see him last week. You always feel like when you see him that everything is going to be okay,” he added.

Dancing With The Stars, the grand finale, airs this Sunday on RTE One at 6.30pm
