Mrs. Brown’s Brendan O’Carroll hopes he’s been support to daughter Fiona after her marriage split

Brendan O’Carroll hopes that he has been a rock of support to his daughter Fiona after she split from her husband Martin Delany.

The Mrs. Brown’s Boys star and creator finds it hard being away from his kids and grandkids while he is based in America for most of the year.

He is very proud of his grandson Jamie, who recently made his debut for Ulster Rugby.

Brendan told RSVP Magazine: “I miss the grandkids more than the kids because I have had enough of them [laughs].

“We are very lucky because my son Danny has a summer house beside us, my son Eric is next door to him and my daughter Fiona is the next house after that.

“They come to Florida for the entire summer when the kids are off school and we have a great time.”

Fiona split from her husband Martin Delany, who also stars on Mrs Brown’s Boys, recently she said Brendan has been a great support to her.

He said: “I hope I have been a rock of support to both of them because sometimes things just don’t work out.

“Fiona and Martin still work together on screen and on stage.

“Marriages break down, that happens, but you won’t get a better mother than Fiona or a better dad than Martin. That is the important thing.”

Brendan’s grandson Jamie, Danny’s son, is playing rugby for Ulster, so he is very proud.

He said: “You have no idea! I was at one of his matches and I was just glowing. My wife Jenny was standing beside me and she said, ‘He was the best player on the pitch, oh my God he is amazing.’ I said, ‘Jenny, he hasn’t gone on yet [laughs].'”

Mrs Brown’s Boys is back on screens for a mini-series, so it has this given the franchise a new lease of life because it is not stuck in a particular time frame?

Brendan said: “I don’t know, does the show need a new lease of life? When we signed on it was for 18 episodes, three series of six episodes each.

“When we do the Christmas specials this year we will have done 49 episodes, including four live shows.

“It is phenomenal. My mother always said that success is like disco music, don’t analyse it, just dance to it. I tend to keep on dancing as long as the music is playing.”

Plans are already in place for the Christmas special, which is being filmed in BBC Scotland.

He said: “We have no definite plan, but there will be two Christmas specials. We are working out what to do with the Christmas tree, again!”

Brendan doesn’t have a five-year plan and he doesn’t really plan ahead.

He said: “My son Eric is 32 and Jenny and I made a decision a long time ago when he was six. We said that we wouldn’t work when he was off school.

“He was off 26 weeks of the year so anything we did had to fit into the other 26 weeks. We’ve an Irish tour next year and we are going to Australia.

“We have also got Christmas specials to record and we’re going to America and Canada in 2025. I am really looking forward to kicking America in the ass. Our five-year plan is to stick to working 26 weeks a year.”
