The TV funnyman, who plays Agnes Brown in the popular comedy series, will keep making episodes centred around the Brown family for as long as the BBC wants him to
Mrs Brown’s Boys is going nowhere as Brendan O’Carroll has vowed to keep making the hit BBC and RTE sitcom for as long as possible.
The TV star and comedian plans to keep writing and starring in new episodes every time he is offered a deal by BBC.
The news comes off the back of Mrs Brown’s Boys annual Christmas and New Year specials, as well as a mini series which aired back in autumn.
Brendan told the Daily Star : “As long as the BBC keep asking, we’ll keep making episodes. It’s down to what the BBC want and what we can plan around.
“We are definitely making more specials. Whether we do another full series or not depends on dates.”
Brendan, who plays Mrs Agnes Brown, said: “When we started we signed on to do 18 episodes across three years. Now we’ve done 49 episodes, which is absolutely incredible. We’ll be doing our 50th episode in 2024.”
Mrs Brown’s Boys has become one of the most successful sitcoms in TV history since launching in 2011.
It is aired around the world, has won a string of top awards and has had a spin-off movie and stage show.
Brendan admits he isn’t a comedy genius and can’t believe it’s done so well.
He added: “I’d love to say I’m so clever that I sat down and had a plan. I had no plan. Nobody is as surprised by it all as me.”
In recent years, Mrs Brown’s Boys has faced criticism from people on social media and the cast have acknowledged the show is not everyone’s cup of tea.
But Brendan thinks there is a good reason why the show still has a very strong fanbase in the UK and Ireland.
He said: “Mrs Brown’s Boys looks back to that late 80s and 90s comedy where you don’t have to worry about it, you just sit down and let it come at you, you don’t have to try and figure it out, you don’t have to have a university degree to understand it.
“It’s just gags and it’s let’s sit down on Christmas Day, whatever else happens, let’s sit down and just have a laugh.”
