Rory said Dancing With The Stars was the last show he will ever sign up for
Axed Dancing With The Stars contestant Rory Cowan has ruled out ever returning to Mrs Brown’s Boys revealing he hasn’t talked to show creator Brendan O’Carroll in seven years.
The actor officially announced his retirement after he became the first celebrity to leave the RTE One show on Sunday night with his pro-dance partner Jillian Bromwich.
Speaking afterwards, Rory said he hasn’t heard from Brendan since he sensationally quit Mrs Brown’s Boys in 2017 – but appreciates everything he did for him.
Asked if he had heard from Brendan since quitting the show, Rory said: “No. Brendan lives in Florida. So I haven’t seen him in seven years. But he’s been very supportive of everything I’ve done.
“Mrs. Brown’s Boys fully supported me in this, and they were all behind me and that they hoped that I was going to win, which is very nice. Very optimistic,” he said laughing.
“But I do know that he supported me and it’s wonderful. It’s great.”
But Rory ruled out ever returning to the sitcom, saying he is “officially retired” from showbiz.
He said: “I’m now officially retired.
“I have a contract with Fair City for this year and I’m doing that but anything else I’m asked to do, and it’s been a few things that I’ve been asked to do, I’m not doing any of them. I’m finished.
“I’m just going to enjoy myself now and do a lot of travelling.
“Well, when I say travelling, it’s long weekends away because of my cats, Pebbles and Bamm Bamm.
“I’ve been working very hard since I was 17. So that’s 44 years at this stage and I’m looking forward to retirement.”
Rory looked back on his career fondly and admitted that it was now time to pass the showbiz baton on to a younger generation.
“I genuinely will take to it (retirement) because I’ve worked very hard and it’s time and it’s somebody else’s turn to do whatever it is that they want to do.
“I’ve had a great career working with EMI and traveling all over the world with them.
“And then a fabulous career with Brendan O’Carroll. I mean, I couldn’t believe it if I hadn’t lived it. And then I wrote a best-selling book. I was in a few pantos, and I’ve done Dancing with the Stars.
“And I think I’ve done enough at this stage,” he added.
