A video of Dun Laoghaire busker Gerry has been viewed all over the world on Coldplay’s social media channels, and his older brother is none other than Rory Cowan
Rory Cowan was bursting with pride as Coldplay frontman Chris Martin made an incredible gesture to his brother Gerry.
Iconic rock band Coldplay have arrived in Dublin ahead of playing four sold out concerts in Croke Park on Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday.
The band have been exploring the capital ahead of the gigs, which over 300,000 fans are expected to attend, and yesterday made a pit stop at the coastal town of Dun Laoghaire.
While walking on the pier, Chris got chatting to a local busker named Gerry and shared a video of him playing the banjo across Coldplay’s social media channels, exposing him to their millions of followers in the process.
Chris captioned the post: “So happy to be in Dublin. Pleasure to meet you, Gerry.”
Gerry is well-known to the locals in Dun Laoghaire as he often plays music by the pier. As it turns out, his brother is none other than Mrs Brown’s Boys and Fair City actor Rory Cowan.
Delighted with Chris giving him a shoutout, Rory posted on X: “That’s my younger brother, Gerry. He’s a great banjo and mandolin player. And look at him there playing his banjo for Chris Martin.”
“No way! Wonderful,” one fan replied.
“Ah Rory, how fantastic,” added another.
While a third follower joked: “Now Chris Martin has a claim to fame, meeting the brother of Rory”.
Following their trip to Dun Laoghaire, Coldplay made their way to Dublin city to shoot a music video for their new single We Pray. Huge crowds gathered on Grafton Street to be a part of Chris and co’s latest video as they filmed with featured artists on the track Little Simz, Burna Boy, Elyanna and Tini.
The first of four Coldplay shows kicks off in Dublin tonight. If you are lucky enough to be heading along, we have all of the information you need right here.
