The popular BBC comedy took home the Best Comedy award at the 2024 National Television Awards and is set to return for more festive mayhem this December
Mrs Brown’s Boys creator and star Brendan O’Carroll has given an update on this year’s Christmas special.
The popular BBC comedy, starring O’Carroll as the quick-witted Agnes Brown is set to return on 25 December for another installment of festive fun.
Despite being only three months away however, the Irish star has admitted there might be a slight issue.
“It’s really… not written yet! I mean, it’s really good!” he replied when probed about it by Radio Times.
When quizzed further about whether or not Mrs Brown is likely to have a peaceful Christmas, he replied: “Never! I can foresee Mrs Brown’s Christmas will be just as chaotic as ever. Except this year, I think she’s going to be happy with her Christmas tree…”
His words came as Mrs Brown’s Boys took home the Best Comedy award at the 2024 National Television Awards (NTAs) at the London O2 Arena on Wednesday evening.
It marked the fourth win for the sitcom at the NTAs, having previously won Best Comedy in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
The show faced some stiff competition this year as it went up against Brassic, The Gentlemen, Ghosts, and Lee Mack’s Not Going Out.
Ghosts star Kiell Smith-Bynoe was caught on camera looking visibly outraged after the BBC show – in which he takes a lead role as Mike Cooper – missed out on the nod.
The actor later made light of the loss online by sharing a meme of a young woman “reporting a crime”, prompting followers to claim he had been “robbed.”
Smith-Bynoe wasn’t the only disgruntled nominee on the night, The Apprentice star Lord Alan Sugar received a backlash for after he claimed that “vote fiddling” goes on at the annual award show after Kate Garraway scooped a prize.
