Mrs Brown’s Boys return confirmed – but angry critics beg bosses to ‘axe’ BBC show

Irish sitcom classic Mrs Brown’s Boys is set to make return on BBC next month with a new date revealed for its first new series in a decade and viewers have been left divided

Mrs. Brown’s Boys is set to make a return next month with new episodes.

For over 10 years, the comedy series has been a consistent feature on the BBC’s Christmas television line-up.

However, the network has now officially announced that on Friday, September 8, the series will broadcast never-before-seen episodes, marking the show’s inaugural season since 2013.

The four episodes of the Irish telly sitcom, created by and starring Brendan O’Carroll, are scheduled to be broadcasted on both BBC One and iPlayer in the later part of 2023.

Brendan told the BBC back in March: “This mini-series was actually planned for 2021.

“Having been thwarted twice, firstly by Covid-19 and then by a post Covid shortage of studios, it’s fantastic to, at last, have the chance to make it happen.

“Fasten your seatbelts and hold onto your hats!”

However, the announcement of the award-winning show returning to our screens next month has left viewers divided.

Since airing, Mrs Brown’s Boys has faced several controversies over the years, including Brendan being sued by former co-star Gary Hollywood, who played Dino Doyle.

“People whining about Mrs Brown coming back. Don’t watch it then and let the rest of us enjoy it,” a viewer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Another commented: “Yesss week before my birthday, get innn.”

“Great news, can’t wait,” a separate person excited about the news wrote.

They added: “About time something decent was on TV.”

Other viewers didn’t take the news too positively, as a person wrote: “Worst thing to ever happen in Britain on September 8th.”

“Please no, it’s run its course now so time to axe it,” another viewer commented.

A separate individual chimed in: “For the love of God please don’t.”

This follows the sitcom summer touring the UK with stage show Mrs Brown Rides Again.

Back in June, Brendan had told the Daily Star he wasn’t bothered if his performances as foul-mouthed Agnes on the sitcom offended people.
