Dancing with the Stars’ Rory Cowan first person to be sent home in shock elimination

Week three recap: The first celebrity has been eliminated from Dancing with the Stars after Blu Hydrangea, Katja Mix and Jason Smyth impressed the judges the most in studio

Rory Cowan has become the first celebrity to be eliminated from season seven. Dancing with the Stars.

The Fair City star and their partner Jillian Bromwich failed to impress judges Brian Redmond, Loraine Barry and Arthur Gourounlian and voting public at home after they had the lowest number of votes combined from the first three episodes.

They followed in the footsteps of Hughie Maughan, Norah Casey, Eilish O’Carroll, Yewande Biala, Cathy Kelly and Leah O’Rourke, who also left the show first.

Opening tonight’s show was Ireland’s Fittest Family presenter Laura Fox and her partner Denys Samson as they danced a Paso Doble to Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood by Santa Esmeralda.

Loraine Barry said: “I’d like a little bit more commitment to give you a stronger image. Of course Denys is shining in his white shirt, but he didn’t outshine you tonight.”

Brian Redmond said: “The characterisation of that paso was spot on from start to finish.”

Laura and Denys got a score of 23 from the judges.

Jockey Davy Russell danced with Laura Nolan last week, but he was back with his pro partner Kylee Vincent, who was ill last week, tonight. They danced a Samba to Iko Iko (My Bestie) Justin Wellington featuring Small Jam Break.

Brian said: “You’ve really bought into this process. It’s elimination night and I hope you haven’t fallen at the first hurdle.”

Arthur said: “It looked like dad dancing to me. Samba is a difficult dance, you need to have that fluidity and you struggled. You gave it 100 percent.”

Davy and Kylee got a total of 12 from the judges.

The third couple to dance tonight were singer David Whelan and his partner Salome Chachua. After his illness last week they danced a Viennese Waltz to Good by John Legend. Once again they impress the three judges.

Loraine said: “The spins, the pivots. That’s the way to my heart. A beautiful viennese waltz”

Brian said: “You look good, but I want more movement.”

They scored 24 from the judges.

Fair City and Mrs. Brown’s Boys favouirte Rory Cowan, who is partnered with Jillian Bromwich, was up next. They danced fun a Salsa to Macarena by Los del Rio.

Loraine said: “You forgot the hips tonight.”

Arthur said: “Salsa is sassy just like you. I wished you embraced it a little bit more because you have the musicality.”

Rory and Jillian scored 13 from Brian, Loraine and Arthur.

The fifth celebrity to take to the dancefloor for week 3 was model and author Rosanna Davison joined her pro partner Stephen Vincent. Their Quickstep was danced to Things by Robbie Williams and Jane Horrocks. While she had a little slip, she still carried on.

Brian said: “When you did get going, it was lovely, it was light. A gust of wind took you off your feet, but you still kept going.”

Arthur said: “I loved this side of you.”

Rosanna and Stephen scored 20 from the judges.

The sixth couple to perform were former newsreader Eileen Dunne partnered with Robert Rowiński, they took to the dancefloor with a Waltz to Try to Remember Liza Minnelli.

Eileen was suppoted by her husband Macdara and her former RTÉ colleagues Anne Doyle and Mary Kennedy.

Loraine said: “There were two words to describe the dance, delicate and beautiful.”

Brian said: “The movement was lovely and fluid.”

Eileen and Robert scored 17 from the three judges.

Hoping to be lucky number seven tonight were The Six O’Clock Show presenter Katja Mia and her pro partner Ervinas Merfeldas as they took to the floor and performed a Cha Cha Cha to Cuff It by Beyoncé. Katja is a massive Beyoncé fan – she went to her concert in Cardiff last year and was left starstruck after the singer wished her a happy 27th birthday from the stage.

Brian said: “My God, what a Cha Cha.”

Arthur said: “Queen B would be so proud of this Cha Cha Cha. You hit every beat and every note. It was hot hot hot.”

Katja and Ervinas got a whopping 24 from the judges.

Up next were social media star Miriam Mullins and her partner, show newbie Montel Hewson. Their Foxtrot was danced to Heaven by Niall Horan.

Arthur said: “That song was perfect for you. You have this beautiful musicality. That was so angelic.”

Miriam and Montel scored 20 a total of points from the judges.

Ninth to dance, actor Shane Quigley Murphy showcased his skills as he danced a Jive with his partner Laura Nolan to All of These Nights by Tom Grennan.

Loraine said: “Together tonight, your energy worked off each other tremendously well.”

Brian said: “A powerful jive.”

Arthur said: “You went for it, you had it all. For for time, I saw you’re in it to win it.”

Shane and Laura earned a whopping 24 from the judges.

RuPaul’s Drag Race star Blu Hydrangea and their partner Simone Arena have impressed so far this season and they were the tenth couple to dance tonight. They danced the Tango to Applause by Lady Gaga.

Loraine said: “Fierce and firey. There was a lot of power and a lot of steps. For a drag superstar it was perfect”

Arthur said: “I lived for that tango. Diva, diva, diva. The passion between you two on the dancefloor was electrifying.”

Blu and Simone got the highest score of the night, 25.

The final celebrity to take to the dancefloor tonight was Paralympian Jason Smyth and his pro partner Karen Byrne who was back in studio having been ill last week. The couple danced a Classic Ballroom to Show Me What I’m Looking For by Carolina Liar.

Loraine said: “You two work so well together. You put up a beautiful frame, I thought this was exquisite.”

Arthur said: “It was so emotional and so moving. You poured your heart out on the dancefloor.”

Brian said: “By far your best dance this season.”

Jason and Karen scored 24 points from the judges.
